Our  Woven Fibres

Abaca (Banana Leaf)

Banana leaf rope comes from plant fibres, which belongs to the banana, hence the multi-names. The plant itself grows up to 3 meters tall or more & can be harvested every 2years.

The harvesting begins with removing the semi dry outer layer of the banana tree trunk . Once removed, it requires little processing. It is laid in the sun to dry by itself.

Once dried, it is then stripped and twisted as a material in the form of ropes. The ropes are strong and tough, and they take on the natural colour characteristics of the fibre. The ropes are then used as weaving material or as binding around furniture frames.  As a final process, it is spray coated with a protective clear polyurethane lacquer.

Combination Weave: (Combines Abaca & Sarang Buaya):

Abaca (banana leaf) as per above is combined with a rattan specie known as Sarang Buaya, this  type of rattan material comes from the lush Indonesian forest of Kalimantan and Sumatra. Sarang Buaya rattan has a dark coffee black brown colour and is usually used as the uprights in a weaving structure and the Banana rope as the weaving material.

Kubu Rattan:

Kubu rattan is another specie of Rattan that grows abundantly and wild in lush Indonesian forests of Kalimantan, Sumatra and many other areas. It is white to beige in actual dried state and  is further processed to be either used as weaving materials and or as wicker core as well as being naturally stained to reach a grey colour known as Kubu grey.

Other:
Loom Material & Wicker. Ask our staff for more information about these materials.

Vast Care Factor:

Protect your natural fibres from direct sunlight;

Clean your natural fibre regularly using a low suction vacuum;

Clean spills immediately using a clean cotton cloth;

Protective coatings (such as polyurethane spray) can be applied to the natural fibre to  reduce breakdown of fibres;

Do not use cleaning solvents, acids or alkaline on natural fibres.

As simple as this sounds maintenance is vital when prolonging the life of your lounge.
